Liberal Democrat Councillors Working Hard For You....

Not just election time...all year round

We're often asked what we actually do all year...and the answer is simple...we work for our residents to resolve lots of those issues that people can't get sorted on their own or don't know where to start with.  In the last year that's meant helping people with a wide range of concerns - we average several new pieces of case work each week.

Improving Travel and Transport: Liberal Democrats are working hard for you

As we approach the elections on 4th May, we thought it would be helpful to summarise some of our manifesto priorities, and highlight the work your Liberal Democrat councillors and candidates have done, or are doing, on your behalf. This note focuses on travel and transport.

key_Travel_and_Transport.jpg

Liberal Democrats in Cambridgeshire are committed to (see our manifesto for details):-

  • Significantly improving our rail network and rail services

  • Rebuilding bus services, especially in rural areas

  • Making better provision for cyclists across the county

  • Better maintenance of our roads, cycle ways and pavements

  • Consider all options for solving congestion problems in and around Cambridge.

And Liberal Democrat councillors and candidates are working hard everyday to improve travel and transport in Huntingdon. See our note for just a few examples (click HERE)

These newsletters highlight some of the key current issues we face and what we as Liberal Democrats are fighting:-

  1. Local schools in funding crisis
  2. Hunts District Council intending to close the Customer Service Centre in St Neots
  3. Campaigning against the proposed Riversfield development
  4. Campaigning hard against exorbitant parking fees at St Neots station and working with residents on a new parking scheme
  5. Working with residents and local traffic officers on trying to improve Huntingdon Road and A1 junction safety.

Our membership keeps on growing and our new members are active! - here’s the story of one recent joiner

Tim Farron announced yesterday that there are now over 100000 members in our party. And what we see nationally, is also true in our District. At the start of the year we had well below 200 members, we now have over 300 members

One of our new members is Ethan Stone. On 18th April Ethan contacted Ste Greenall (District Secretary) and said “I would like to know what I can do to become a more active member of the party.” Very quickly, Ethan, along with his partner, Ellie, agreed to get out onto the streets to deliver his first leaflets.

After completing his first delivery Ethan sent the following message to Ste

Ste is very impressed with Ethan’s, and his partner Ellie’s drive and enthusiasm. It’s a fantastic example of how ANY member - old or new - can get involved and feel part of the party’s activities.

Ste asked Ethan to tell us his story, as he thought others would be interested, so here it is.

Mike Shellens: working hard for Huntingdon and Hartford

Mike Shellens election address is now published (click HERE) along with an update on the efforts he (and Ste Greenall) have been making to address traffic issues around the Sapley Road / Desborough Road area. Mike has compiled the feedback of a survey on this (click HERE). In this newsletter, Mike also talks about recent casework, the mayoral election and national developments (before the announcement of the General Election)!!

Mike's newsletter is a good read, partly because it shows just how much work Mike (and the other Liberal Democrat Councillors) gets through on your behalf! Enjoy it.

Your Liberal Democrat candidates for Huntingdon, Godmanchester and surrounding villages

Huntingdon and Godmanchester already have two very fine County Councillors and in this election we want to increase this number to three! Your current councillors, Mike Shellens and Graham Wilson work tirelessly on your behalf, spending lots of time listening to residents concerns and representing your interests. Together with Peter Downes our candidate for the Buckden and Brampton division (introduced in a previous post), they represent a formidable force for good on the County Council.

For this election we have a new candidate in Huntingdon, Joe Jordan, who has recently moved into the area, has stood to be elected as a councillor previously too! We also have Mike Baker (also introduced in a previous post), who has extensive District Council experience.

We are really fortunate that we have so many quality candidates, so Vote Liberal Democrat and make a difference!
